Great Bealings lies in an Area of Special Landscape in unspoilt rolling countryside, with the River Lark running through ancient watermeadows. We are opposite the 1,000 year old Norman church of St Mary’s. It is only a couple of miles from the centre of Woodbridge and its Market Hill (left), and within easy reach of the great football team in the county town of Ipswich.
Regular trains from London Liverpool Street stop at both Ipswich and Woodbridge, taking just over the hour to reach Ipswich.
The Pay and Play golf course adjoining Seckford Hall Hotel (right) is just up the road, with the heathland and challenging Woodbridge and Ipswich Golf Courses about 15 minutes drive away.
We are lucky to have the John Belstead village tennis court and playground shared with Little Bealings, within walking distance. We can provide kit if needed.
To eat out we recommend local pubs: The Anchor in Woodbridge, The Greyhound in Pettistree, and the award winning Grundisburgh Dog. For restaurants try Milsoms Bistro at Kesgrave Hall. There are plenty of great traditional Pubs run by Deben Inns to try within easy reach in Melton and Waldringfield. Aldeburgh is renowned for its fish and chips to eat on the beach. Go to our Links page for more ideas to eat out.
Woodbridge with its Tide Mill and marina on the Deben, (left), is a renowned rowing, canoeing & sailing centre, connecting down river to Waldringfield, Ramsholt and Felixstowe.
The National Trust’s Sutton Hoo is close by: their amazing reconstruction of King Raedwald’s ship and treasures are an absolute must see.
